What to Expect

1) When you arrive one of our friendly lab members will meet you outside the lab on the second floor of the building.

2) We will then take you to a play room and go over all the details of the studies that your child will be participating in and have you sign the consent forms. Here, we will also take a picture of your child for their certificate that they will receive after the appointment is complete!

3. During the experiments, the child will be sitting on your lap in front of a large TV screen that is connected to our computers! We will record a video of your baby's face to determine how long they look at the TV screen and where on the screen they are looking, while they listen to different sounds that are presented to them on the speakers.

4. Some studies will have an exposure that ranges between 2-10 minutes, where you may play with your child while they are exposed to a stream of sounds or speech. Here you may play with them on the ground, or sit in the chair and let them play, but we ask that you not talk to them during this part, as we want them to hear the stimuli that we are testing! After this room, you will proceed to the TV screen room as explained above.

5. A few studies will require the use of sunglasses covered with electrical tape, as to block our eye-tracking system from tracking your eyes rather than your child's. These will be worn like normal sunglasses and can be removed once the study is complete.
